TULCA is the annual visual art festival held throughout Galway City in NOvember 2010 and is designed to expose Galway residents to exciting local and international exhibitions. Originally started in 2002, the
TULCA Festival of Visual Art 2010 is to be managed by well-known curator Michelle Browne. The 2010 edition will take over a multitude of venues from November 6th to the 21st. Venues include:
Galway Arts Centre Galway Museum Niland Gallery The Spanish Arch Nuns Island Theatre Bar 8 The Dock Shed The Fairgreen Building
Approximately 36 artists will have their sculpture, painting, video, audio and structural installations displayed at the participating TULCA venues. The installations are supplemented with TULCA talks, a selection of dedicated panel discussions open to artists, academic professors and the audience. Four TULCA talks are scheduled as follows:
A Fine Line - October 30th: Collaboration between the TULCA Festival of Visual Art and the Galway Theatre Festival. A discussion about current theatre and art practices. Jennifer Brady - November 9th: Discussion focusing on the past and present works of Jennifer Brady. Paola Paz Yee - November 10th: Discussion with Mexican artist Paola Paz Yee on her work concerning Central and South America. Launch - November 16th: Explanation of the Connect Mentoring Program, which helps artists and mentors collaborate and participate in art. Curation - November 17th: A discussion about the role of the curator, lead by TULCA 2010 curator, Michelle Browne.
The TULCA Festival of Visual Art 2010 rounds out its itinerary with three half-day workshops lead by performers Helge Meyer, Aidana Rico and Paola Paz Yee. Guests can participate in each performance workshop for €10 per day.
